I know, I know I have been scarce these past few
seasons, but you must understand that I do have 3 kids and
between them and the office I really get pooped.
The creative side of me urges me to pen a few lines but the
exhausted side of me just wins over. However as my kids are
now in school and are occupied in their own little wonderful
world, I managed to steal a few moments of calm for myself and
hence this treat for y’all.
A few Sundays ago, a pastor from Cameroon was
preaching. He is a wonderful speaker. The sermon was about Judas, how he
had the chance to
repent before betraying Jesus and how he abused that opportunity. As he was
speaking, he was saying about how Judas kissed Jesus’ hand before betraying him,
and likened the same to something very profound
(48
Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: The one I kiss is the man;
arrest him. 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said,
Greetings, Rabbi! and kissed him - Mathew 26).
He said that Judas kissed the door to heaven but
willingly entered the one to hell. That to me is so saddening. However I got
to thinking and realized that although we may not be betraying Jesus literally,
we do betray in so many ways by disobeying. In other words we all come close to
becoming little Judases. That to me is even more saddening. What I am saying
is that we should grab that opportunity to repent and choose to enter heaven and
not otherwise.
Another thought that was kindled in me on the
behest of a dear friend is that when we were not so close to God, or were just
learning to walk with God we were so much happier, but as we began to have a
closer walk, things really got tougher. I told her that in the beginning
we were ignorant of many things, hence ignorance was bliss, however as
we realize the love of God, we can discern the right from wrong and that divine
wisdom gives us a responsibility, that of commitment. Commitment to God, and as
with any commitment there is a huge level accountability that one must fulfill,
so the task becomes uphill, but a pleasurable one because now you know that you
are not walking alone but God is with you.
So I leave you with that thought. Enjoy the popsicles, ice creams, juices,
lemonades and all the goodies that you can only enjoy as the warm weather is
winding down. I love
this time of year, reminds me of India evermore, the corn on cob with spicy chutney, 100+
varieties of mangoes, kulfi (Indian ice cream), the cool sugar cane cubes and
juice… I could go on. But I thank God for everything whether here or India.
God
is good all the time.
