Thoughts for the week..

A.  Financial Crisis:  How did we get into this mess?  The answer is greed.  It started with people being financed into homes that they had no business being in.  Loans were very easy to come by.  Home values were inflated.  Now, everything  has come crashing down.  A 778 pt drop in the DOW today?  That has never happened in the history of this country.  Absolutely incredible.

I think what I take away from this is how uncertain life is.  The United States has had the most powerful economic presence on the planet for some time now, but greed has now put us into this mess.  Will we get out of it, yes.  Absolutely.  Honestly though, it makes me concerned as to where we're headed.  I think we need to pray.

B.  America's Team is in DC:  Well, well, well:  Have a little bit of this.  The Washington Redskins have arrived.  Give me some credit here people.  This is my first Redskins update in 7-8 months.  I would be remiss if I didn't congratulate my home team.

I like what Coach Jim Zorn is doing with this team.  He seems to be just what the doctor ordered.  I think he's also helped Jason Campbell development immensely.  Campbell has ZERO INTs and ZERO fumbles.  That is incredible.  This guy has been a fumbling machine in the past. Bottom line? This is a talented team that can win now.

Oh, wait a minute, I think I'm forgetting something here.  Ahh, that's right.

Redskins 26
COWBOYS 24

It still ticks me off that a lot of analysts were talking about what Dallas didn't do, and T.O. shannanagans rather than what the Redskins did.  I even heard a few analysts picking the Redskins as the team that'll be left out of the playoffs from the NFC East.

That's cool, keep doubting us.  Shout out to Jerry Jones!

C.  Debate 2008:  I watched the debate on Friday with an objective view of seeing who won.  I thought McCain took Round 1, and it wasn't close.  Couple of things, the fact that he actually went to Iraq/Afghanistan, and seeing the K-G-B in Putin's eyes were great sound bites.  We'll see how the VP debate goes.

BSC Hall of Fame - Now Online

A.  Hey all.  After 6 BSC tournaments we felt it was time to create a Hall of Fame section where we can keep track of the all-time records.  While we don't have individual records (we hope to start incorporating this soon), we do have team records.  Just something for teams to be aware of, and shoot to break records in future years.

B.  2008 BSC Media:  There have been multiple requests to see the clips from the tourney.  We'll begin releasing at least two clips a month starting in October, leading all the way up to the 2009 BSC.  Keep it locked in.

C.  A Note to Chicago Bear Fans:  Including a certain IPF webmaster, cough.  I just want to shout out one QB Kyle Orton of the Chicago Bears.  No one in the NFL throws a better.........3 yard pass.  Thing of beauty I'll tell ya...

Political Recharge

History is continuously recorded with each passing day as individuals rise and fall, and amidst it all swift progress is hopefully attained. The daggers are out, weapons poised for attack, statements of grandeur and conquest proclaimed to instill both fear and excitement in hearts. Stories, rumors of fine work and bad deeds spread like wildfire among the crowds as their leaders face off and battle cries ring out across the land. Women and children their fates at stake, men run wild, fists shaking at their plight. The plans of action only in a form of words are bitterly argued left and right. No one leader ready to strike.

Lately the US presidential election has been the topic of conversation and soon the United States of America will have either its first black president or its first female vice president. Unfortunately this still shows that we are slightly behind the times as the rest of the world has seen many a female president and prime minster and notable famed black leaders who have led their nations to either war or some form of peace and stability. (Some historical notes: The first female Prime Minister in the world: Siramavo Bandaranaike; 1960 of Sri Lanka, followed by India’s Prime Minister Indira Gandhi; 1966, and even a first CO-Chairwoman of People’s Republic of China, Soong-Chin-ling; 1968, then Golda Meir; 1969 Prime Minister of Israel and how can we forget Margaret Thatcher; 1979 Prime Minister of England, as well as many female Presidents in Latin America. These were all among the first females to lead Nations.)

Sometimes I think it is quite ironic that Sri Lanka and India were the first countries to have female leaders since they are known, specifically India, as countries which do not have equal treatment of women. Of course there are many situations that exist in certain regions: FGM, gender based violence, and the rights and attitudes towards education, work, and marriage. Still, there is progress being made. I should mention that I am not a feminist at all; I just believe that each individual human being should be treated with respect and have access to all basic and life sustaining human rights. This said, now back to other politics and what’s at hand, I do believe historical milestones are finally being reached in the US with both a black leader and female leader being able to rise up the ranks of government.

Today there are so many issues threatening our livelihood; STD’s are literally almost a plague, teen pregnancy is ever increasing and with an absolute disregard for the sacredness of the marriage institution and moral code of living the only possible solutions available are band-aid jobs. There is no complete solution unless peoples’ belief systems change because how are you going to control yourself? We only live by the grace of God and give and surrender our lives into the control of Jesus Christ our Savior.

The numerous issues affecting our lives continuously increase: the intensifying tensions between nations, talk of nuclear weapons development in regions across the world, the controlling powers over huge energy resources, the already existing wars in so many countries, immigration concerns and economic woes that are creating mountains of debt, job losses, inflation, taxations and not to mention healthcare, the current coverage is not quite cutting it: socialized medicine, anyone? And issues of whether and how much the US will contribute to increased and better public health and international aid programs is also at stake. It is all quite disturbing.

Ultimately I feel that people should stand firm in their choices and decisions and not be swayed back and forth by popular opinion. As Christians we should stand by our Biblical principles of life and hold firm to the sacred institutions which God created for our good. Also God is always in control of every situation and has created this world from beginning to end, after all it says in the Word of God; ‘I knew you before you were even formed in your mother’s womb.’ I know that God has given us life and placed inside of us our unique qualities to be in this period of time. Although at times His voice may be inaudible, His presence rare, and it does not seem as if He is there, but through it all God is always working. In the story of Esther, annihilation was inevitable and there seemed no way or no hope to change the kings’ edict. Yet, God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours, God’s will not comprehensible to us, and He is at work in the hearts of kings, leaders and people. There is no situation small or great that He is not there.

NFL RUNDOWN

The most amazing thing happen to me this past weekend! I am talking HUGE!!! Bigger then me getting a job, bigger then my recent engagement, bigger then...ok I ran out of things to compare it to but... I watched my team (yes the Bears for all of you that don't know) beat the Colts on Sunday night! (I was just kidding about it being bigger then my engagement, love you sweetheart:) The amazing part of it was that I was expecting them to get beat by at least 14 points. I was just kind of hoping that they would keep it interesting through halftime. Not to mention the fact that I have both Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne on my fantasy football team. But the Bears really surprised me, they played like they actually had a clue. After their abysmal 2007 season my expectations were very low for this year. But I guess the Bears win was just par for the course, when you look at the rest of week 1 in the NFL.

Where to begin? It was a first week full of upsets, injuries, and crazy finishes. Lets be honest, after that crapper of a season opening last Thursday night between the Giants and Redskins I was not really to enthused. By the way Chris, Jim Zorn... Get a clue man! I know you are a first year coach, and that you have a relatively young QB to work with, but your down by a lot, you have all three timeouts, and your handing the ball off in the fourth quarter instead of trying to make things happen through the air! Inexperience is one thing, straight up stupidity is a whole other thing. And on Thursday night Jim Zorn looked STUPID! (oh I should mention, it is not like I actually believed the Redskins had a chance of winning, or that they will be any good this year. Just because you add an over the hill defensive lineman who would much rather be Dancing With the Stars and making Hollywood movies, does not mean you have improved much over last year. The Sean Taylor emotional high is over, that may have carried them into the playoffs last year, but it will do them no good this year)

Then there is the New England Patriots. All I can think of is how all of football fan nation (excluding Patriots fans) let out a small smirk this week when they heard that the Amazing Tom Brady would be out the rest of the season with a torn up knee. AND NO THE PLAY HE GOT HURT ON WAS NOT DIRTY!!! IT IS FOOTBALL PEOPLE!!! Players get hurt, even super star ones like Brady! And Randy Moss (who by the way is also on my fantasy team, which kind of makes me ticked that Brady won't be throwing to him this season) just shut up! You admitted to the media that you were RUNNING DOWN FIELD when Brady got hurt, then with your next breathe you say "but from what I saw when it happened the play was dirty." HUH??!! Hang on, let me get this straight Mr. Moss. You are telling me that as you were RUNNING DOWN FIELD (eyes pointed in front of you I would imagine) you saw the "dirty" play? I must be crazy but HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!??????? Unless you have two eyeballs that the rest of us mortals do not have, you are feeding us a load of GARBAGE! Think before you speak my friend, think before you speak.

OK, who is next for this weeks firing line... "Paging MR. Young. Paging Mr. Vince Young" That's right one Vincent Young, QB of the mighty Titans decides to go AWOL this week and make his family report him as missing, at which point the police must get involved. All of this because Young decides he can't handle the pressures of a little booing from the home town fans. The guy stunk up the joint on Sunday and he was getting booed, HE DESERVED TO BE BOOED! Suck it up and take it like a man. So you got booed, and so you hurt your knee, you are a PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE, you get paid millions to play a contact sport! Go rehab the knee and get back out there. I do not need to be reading about how your confidence is shot and you are not committed to football any more because you can't handle the pressure. My goodness! Give me a break.

And finally, today's last victim is the one and only self admitted STEROID USER Mr. Shawn Merriman. Mr. Merriman did you honestly expect us to all just be so giddy over the fact that you were being the "ultimate" team player by deciding to play this season despite 4 doctors telling you that you needed knee surgery. You selfish cheating phony. You have a contract extension coming up here soon and you were just trying to force the teams hand into giving you a new contract, while trying to play the "I am putting team before self" routine. The nice thing about all this is that after all the garbage, the Chargers lost on Sunday and Merriman is done for the season now since it has been reported he has to have surgery to repair the knee.  OK that is it for this week. I promise next week I will TRY to be a little nicer.

Peace I'm Out!

Friday, September 5, 2008 - Chung Lao:  REVISED 11:20 AM

Full BSC Tournament Recap - Congrats to the 2008 BSC Champion Chicago UntouchaBULLS, Pics On the Way!

A.  The 6th annual BSC is in the books.  The Chicago UntouchaBULLS captured their 3rd title, cementing their status as the second BSC dynasty matching Philly's 3 titlesDC put up a valiant fight against Chi-town, but ultimately fell short.

Overall I think the tournament went well.  We improved in a few areas, and as always we'll improve even more for 2009.  Much love to all the fans that came out to support us this year!

Best Game of 2008:  This is very difficult, I think it's a toss up between Gburg-DC in the regular season, Strong Island - Brooklyn in the playoffs, DC-Brooklyn in the playoffs and Chicago-DC in the championship.

**Lots of pictures are coming in.  Should have them up by Monday.  Keep it locked.

Shout outs:  I want to take this time to shout out the following people.  Without their help, this event could not have happened.  Crystal George, Binu Varughese, Vinod Varghese, Stanley John, Sam John, Sijin Samuel & all the team members that helped us man the scoring tables.  To anyone I missed, many thanks for your support.

2008 BSC Tournament MVP: Joe Hamgeri

2008 BSC Joe Rosado 3-Pt Champion: Justin Thomas

2008 BSC Fan Challenge Winner: Barry Burnett

2008 BSC All-Stars: Ify Nwoko, Jason Burnett, Vincent Ventolora, David Kurikesu, Rocky Singh

----------------------------------------------------------

Final2008 BSC Power Rankings

Chicago:  After losing their first game to DC, Chicago never lost another.  Through clutch play from Josue and the eventual BSC MVP Joe Hamgeri, Chicago won a close game with DC to capture their 3rd title, and establish themselves as the second dynasty in BSC history by matching Philly's 3 titles.  The road to the next BSC Championship now goes through the windy city.  Congrats!

1

DC:  A hair's breath away.  DC was this close to taking it.  This team was able to get the #1 seed for the first time in its history.  A few made shots in the last 3 minutes of championship and we'd be talking about DC's first title.  That's how close it was.  This was a bruising, fast, efficient DC team for the most part, losing only to Gburg in the regular season.  Jason & Jerry Thomas played well, as did Aba Udofa.  After winning a tight game against Brooklyn, DC fell to Chicago.  I expect a renewed fire in 2009 from this team that is really right there.

2

Brooklyn:  One word. WOW.  After playing some close games and going 2-3 in the regular season, Brooklyn managed to beat Strong Island in overtime and took DC to the limit in the second round, only losing by two points.  The award for the most improved team goes to them.  This team fielded 2 All-Stars, Jason Burnett and Vincent Ventolora.  Brooklyn better be on people's radar in 2009 or your in for some trouble.

3

Philly:  Well the defending champs were in a precarious situation for a while there.  They limped to a 2-3 record to close out the regular season, beat Gburg in the 1st round of the playoffs before falling to Chicago in the 2nd round.  A lot of teams have seen this year's performance as the nail in the Ballazz's coffin.  I'm not ready to count them out just yet...

4

Gburg:  If you look at the rankings for the past 3 years, Gburg has consistently risen up the chart every year.  Just look at their record over the last 3 years.  You could make the argument that the game of the year in 2008 was on Friday, when Gburg defeated DC amongst the chants of everyone present "GBURG, GBURG!!"  Very exciting game to watch.  Gburg went undefeated on Friday before losing to Philly in their final regular season game, and ultimately to Philly again in the 1st round of the playoffs.  Still, this was a very good year all around for Gburg.  I expect a lot more from them in 2009.

5

Strong Island:  Strong Island had a good showing at the BSC, going 3-2 in the regular season.  Strong Island also set a new BSC scoring record of 60pts against rival Newark.  Even though this team lost an overtime thriller to Brooklyn, with the addition of Belt Parkway in 2009, I see them making some noise.

6

Texas:  This was a tough year for Texas, they came undermanned, and after a win against Newark, it was a tough road to hoe.  Their best player, George Jolly, went down early with an injury and it was a struggle.  Still, major shout out to team captain Roy for coming out this year.  When they come back full strength next year, this team will shoot to the upper echelon of the rankings.

7

Newark:  Major, major shout out to Newark, and team captain Jensen for bringing BRICK CITY back to the BSC after a 2 year absence.  Even though they didn't fare well in the standings, it's our hope they had a good time.  We look forward to seeing you guys next year!!

8

2009 BSC - First look:  It's only going to get more competitive.  Every team is going to come back re-armed and re-loaded.  Should be some great match-ups.  We look forward to seeing all of you there!!
