Over the weekend I was talking with someone about the late Aaliyah, so I thought I'd post some of my thoughts about her.

Aaliyah was a young R&B singer that died tragically in a plane crash back in August 2001. In an interview a couple days before her death, she was asked if she would be doing many concerts. Aaliyah replied that she would do that later on in her career and that she had plenty of time to do that . She would never get the chance.

Her death really affected me, and heres why. Her career was in the process of becoming huge. She was beautiful, she could sing, and her acting career was beginning to blow up. She was set to appear in the Matrix 2 and 3. In other words, people like her aren't suppose to die like that. Why her and not Lil Kim? I know a lot of people felt that way about her death.

Aaliyah was on top of the world. And then BOOM. thats it. Its over. DEAD. I don't know if Aaliyah knew God. Her recent movie "Queen of the Damned" made me wonder. But in any case, her death just hits home on some core things: It doesn't matter who you are, who you know, what you've done, or where you think you'll go, when its time to go, thats it. The End. Aaliyah's death along with 9/11 helped a lot of us have reality checks. I hope we can all get closer to God.
